DMT Airborne Cloud Particle Image Shape Recognition and its Application
Airborne cloud particle detection equipment is the most direct and effective means to obtain the microphysical characteristics of cloud particles. A number of domestic units have introduced the U.S. DMT (Droplet Measurement Technologies) company's cloud imaging probe CIP (cloud imaging probe). Because its supporting software cannot output detailed information about particles one by one, it limits the indepth mining and analysis of cloud particle image detection data. Firstly, the quality control of particle image data is carried out based on the original data of the particle image. Then the particle shapes are divided into 8 categories according to the geometric characteristics of particle shapes. The gray CIP (cloud imaging probe) detection data obtained from three winter aerial surveys in Henan Province from December 2018 to March 2019 is used to conduct characteristic statistics on the shape of cloud particles and the area of each shape particle. We also compare the mass-scale relationships of different particles with the hydrometeor content, which is calculated by treating the particles as spherical droplets, and find that the latter exceeds the former by about an order of magnitude.
