Adaptive Energy-Efficient Named Data Networking in VANETs
Achieving energy-efficient communication in Vehic-ular Ad Hoc Networking (VANETs) is critical for improving the overall performance of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). This study introduces an Adaptive Energy-Efficient Named Data Networking (AEE-NDN) framework specifically designed for VANETs. The framework adapts to varying traffic conditions and optimizes Energy Consumption (EC) through four key components: Secure Data Validation (SDV) for reliable data handling, Adaptive Data Retrieval (ADR) to reduce transmission energy, Active Positioning Routing (APR) for EC data dissemination and Uniform Cache Allocation (UCA) to minimize redundant data transmissions. These components are evaluated based on metrics such as Packet Loss Ratio (PLR), EC, and Cache-Hit Ratio (CHR). Results show that UCA effectively reduces packet loss while optimizing energy usage, maintaining a PLR of 0.4 at lower speeds and achieving a low average latency of 4.1 seconds at high traffic volumes. The adaptive caching mechanism in UCA ensures efficient energy utilization by reducing the need for frequent data re-transmissions. Additionally, ADR significantly improves energy savings in low-traffic scenarios, increasing the CHR to 0.46. Overall, AEE-NDN demonstrates significant potential for reducing EC while enhancing data delivery in VANETs, making it a promising solution for energy-efficient communication in dynamic vehicular networks.
