Design of HII and OI for Dynamic Interference Coordination in UAV Communication Networks

In the communication network where the Base Stations (BSs) are deployed on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), the line-of-sight air-ground wireless channel leads to not only the strong desired signal but also the strong interference. Additionally, the flexible deployment and mobility of UAVs cause the rapidly fluctuation in signal strength, and there is an urgent need to study the dynamic Inter-Cell Interference Coordination (ICIC) technologies. This paper addresses the up-link transmission in the UAV communication networks, where the edge user will suffer severe interference if users served by other BSs use the same Resource Blocks (RBs) to transmit signals in close proximity. To mitigate this issue, the Soft Frequency Reuse (SFR) technology is adopted and the edge frequency band is expanded and further subdivided. Considering the rapid changes in up-link interference caused by both mobility and dynamic scheduling, improvements have been made to the High Interference Indicator (HII) and Overload Indicator (OI) by assessing communication satisfaction to determine the interference level and selectively transmitting signalling to neighboring UAV-BSs. Based on the new design of HII and OI, a Dynamic SFR and Dynamic Scheduling-based ICIC algorithm is proposed, and simulations are implemented for verification.
