Analysis of tools to support the design review process in virtual reality
This paper examines currently available programs with regard to their suitability for use in Design Review. Required functions were derived and classified based on scientific studies. This classification served as a basis for evaluating the respective tools. The aim of the study is to identify functions that are not yet adequately mapped or not mapped at all. The results showed that there is a potential need to support the analysis of the quality and condition of surfaces as well as the analysis of the structure (e.g. exploded or cross-sectional view). Finally, a tool and a prototype are presented with the aim of offering an initial approach to closing this gap. Our prototype is intended to give designers an access to the Design Review without technical knowledge of Virtual Reality.
