Review of Domestic First Aid Kits as an Action of The Community Pharmacy to Promote Ecopharmacovigilance
Objective: To raise awareness among the population of the state of Campeche, Mexico, about the proper use of home first aid kits and the implementation of traffic lights as a measure to prevent environmental pollution caused by pharmaceutical products. Theoretical framework: The lack of health and environmental education in the community to raise awareness about the proper final disposal of medications and their waste has led to improper disposal of medications, which leads to ecosystem contamination. Method: Community outreach efforts were conducted to raise awareness among the population of Campeche, Mexico, about the proper use of household first aid kits. Surveys were also conducted to determine participants' typical use of first aid kits. Results and Discussion: 54.77% of respondents stated they would like to receive training and advice from a pharmacist on organizing their first aid kits, and 67.52% indicated they were interested in learning about and implementing traffic light systems for their medications. Research Implications: Implementing traffic light systems, along with training pharmacists on the proper disposal of medications, are strategies that help prevent pharmaceutical contamination, thus contributing to ecopharmacovigilance and generating healthier and more sustainable lifestyles. Originality/Value: It is important to educate patients about proper medication disposal, as improper disposal can cause serious environmental problems and affect the health of living beings exposed to these emerging contaminants.
