Characterization of Drainage Water From Saline-Sodic Soil in the Semi-Arid Region of Brazil
Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the quality of drainage water from a saline-sodic soil at different collection points and at different times regarding its use for irrigation. Theoretical Framework: The research is based on the guidelines for characterizing irrigation water quality according to the University of California Committee of Consultants, adapted by Ayers and Westcot (1994). Method: Collections were carried out at nine sampling points in a saline-sodic soil and evaluated in six campaign periods from the application of the leaching blade. The parameters evaluated were physical-chemical and Sodium Adsorption Ratio. Results and Discussion: The results obtained allowed us to conclude that the water quality parameters analyzed were influenced by the collection time, with the EC being strongly affected by the concentrations of the ions analyzed. The drainage time increased the sodium concentration in the secondary drainage channel during the experiment. Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are discussed, providing relevant information on the use of drainage water from irrigated perimeters for irrigation purposes. Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by presenting an analysis of the quality of drainage water from a saline-sodic soil for irrigation purposes in an irrigated perimeter, providing support for limiting the use of this water.
