Multimode hardening design of the onboard spaceborne computer based on COTS devices

With the increasing requirements for reliability and performance of computer systems in space missions, on-board spaceborne computer systems based on Commercial off the-shelf components (COTS) devices have become a cost effective option. However, COTS devices can face many challenges in extreme space environments, which puts the reliability of the system to a severe test. To solve these problems, this paper designs a multi-level fault-tolerant mechanism, which adopts multi-mode redundancy technology in hardware and software redundancy design to improve the anti-interference ability of the system in harsh environment. The theoretical results show that the proposed reinforcement design effectively improves the overall reliability of the system.
