Research and development of workshop equipment production information monitoring system based on edge computing
With increased competition in the market, traditional discrete manufacturing workshop equipment is in urgent need of modern technology to achieve digital, networked, and intelligent upgrades. Using an edge-computing architecture, for the actual needs of workshop production information collection, a production information monitoring system is developed for equipment in discrete manufacturing plants. Having designed in detail the overall architecture of the monitoring system, the hardware programmed, and the software functions, it is also developed with localized chips and an open-source Linux system. The developed monitoring system enables edge storage of raw current data and part-level real-time edge computing and condition monitoring, identifying operational statuses such as equipment processing, standby, and other production information such as start and finish times for each part. The machining process of an automotive part was tested, and the results show that the developed system is capable of real-time, accurate, and stable monitoring of workshop equipment over a long time.
