Inadvertent posterior migration of trypan blue into the vitreous during uneventful cataract surgery
Abstract Trypan blue dye is routinely used in staining the anterior capsule of the lens during cataract surgery. Posterior migration of the dye is of rare occurrence. A 75-year-old male presented with gradual-onset painless loss of vision in the right eye for 1 year. He was diagnosed with cataracts and asteroid hyalosis. Posterior migration of the dye into the vitreous was noted intraoperatively. Cataract surgery could be successfully completed with intraocular lens implantation. There was complete resolution of the bluish vitreous discolouration, 1 week following surgery.
