Dynamic analysis of the underlying surface of Guangzhou City using remote sensing images and GIS

Based on the China Land Cover Dataset (CLCD), ENVI and ArcGIS platform, this study analysed the spatial and temporal changes of land use in Guangzhou from 2000 to 2020 by using the method of land use transfer matrix. The results indicate that 1) The land use types in Guangzhou are mainly cropland, forest land and impervious land, the proportion of each was 30.7%, 44.92% and 18.66%, respectively, the proportion of water body was 5.66%, and the proportion of the sum areas of the shrub, grassland and barren was less than 1%. 2) From 2000 to 2020, cropland and impervious land in Guangzhou changed significant, with areas decreased and increased of 606.57 km2 and 640.81km2 , respectively. Forestland increased by 57.40 km2 , water body decreased by 88.41 km2 , scrub, grassland and barren had no significant change. 3) From 2000 to 2020, the main direction of land circulation in Guangzhou was the conversion of cropland into impervious land and forest land, forest land and water body into impervious land, grassland into cropland, and other land use types had no significant changes. By comparison, the land use circulation area from 2000 to 2010 was higher than that from 2010 to 2020, with value of 1027.16 km2 and 722.93 km2 , respectively. 4)The LCs during 2000-2010 and 2010-2020 were 0.72% and 0.50%, respectively. The land use pattern in Guangzhou changed more frequently before 2010, and the overall circulation speed and degree tend to slow down after 2010.
