LESÕES MUSCULOESQUELÉTICAS E ERGONOMIA NA ENFERMAGEM: IMPACTOS E PRÁTICAS PREVENTIVAS PARA REDUÇÃO DE LESÕES OCUPACIONAIS

Nurses are often exposed to workplace conditions that lead to musculoskeletal injuries due to improper posture and excessive physical exertion. These injuries result in absenteeism and decreased care quality. The most affected areas are the lumbar spine, cervical region, and shoulders, leading to significant costs for both professionals and institutions. The adoption of ergonomic practices is crucial for preventing disorders such as Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI) and Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WRMSDs) and improving working conditions. We aim to discuss how improper posture and excessive physical exertion affect nurses’ health and the ergonomic practices that can be implemented to prevent musculoskeletal injuries. A narrative literature review was conducted using the PubMed and Virtual Health Library (BVS) databases. The analysis of the data revealed that the main issues faced by nurses are related to excessive physical exertion, improper posture, and repetitive tasks. Implementing ergonomic practices such as proper training, environmental adjustments, and regular breaks helps to reduce the risks of musculoskeletal injuries such as RSI and MSD. Reorganizing the work environment and raising awareness about correct posture are essential for promoting nurses’ health. Adopting ergonomic practices is essential for preventing musculoskeletal injuries among nurses, ensuring their health and improving the quality of care provided. Environmental adjustments and proper training are key to minimizing risks and ensuring a safe and effective work environment.
