Green H2S Mitigation: Exploring the Eco-Friendly Chelant-Metal Ion Adsorbents
Abstract In various industrial applications including oil refineries, natural gas facilities, and geothermal power plants, the presence of toxic and corrosive hydrogen sulfide (H2S) poses significant challenges. A groundbreaking solution has emerged with the creation of FeQ(Chel(A)), an environmentally safe H2S scavenging compound that combines iron with a green chelating agent. The chelating component, recognized under PLONOR classification for its minimal environmental impact, securely holds the metal complex, facilitating swift neutralization of dissolved H2S into harmless sulfur compounds. When compared to traditional scavengers such as MEA-triazine at equivalent activity thresholds, FeQ(Chel(A)) shows enhanced H2S capture capabilities while maintaining robust performance in acidic environments. The eco-conscious synthesis and implementation of this compound offers a sustainable approach to H2S management across industrial and energy sectors. Current studies are directed toward production scalability and enhancing performance for handling elevated H2S levels, particularly in biogas generation. This forward-thinking development advances both industrial safety and environmental protection goals.
