Effect of Different Fungicide Treatments on Yield and Stripe Rust Severity in Winter Wheat in Pendleton, OR, 2024
Stripe rust caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici is a yield-limiting disease of winter wheat worldwide. In the rainfed conditions of eastern Oregon, fungicides are used to prevent yield loss when genetically resistant cultivars are not planted. This disease results in yield loss, low test weight, and poor-quality grain when unmanaged. This report evaluates the efficacy of fungicides for the control of stripe rust of winter wheat cultivar blend of ‘LCS Sol Ax/LCS Dagger Ax’ at the Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center near Pendleton, OR. The area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC), yield, grain protein, and test weight were evaluated for all treatments. The results of this trial will help advise Pacific Northwest (PNW) wheat growers in developing cost effective fungicide programs.
