Modern Approaches to Fire Safety Risk Assessment at Chemical Industry Enterprises
The highest frequency of fires in the overall structure of man-made emergencies makes it relevant to search for a versatile methodological approach to the assessment of fire safety risks at industrial enterprises. Enterprises of the chemical industry are characterized by a high level of fire risks. The purpose of the article is to identify promising directions of development of the methodology of risk assessment in the field of fire safety at the enterprises of chemical industry. The article analyses international standards and guidelines developed by leading international and national organizations in the field of fire safety, advanced methods and information-analytical systems used to assess fire risks. The analysis has shown the failure of existing methodological approaches to objectively assess the risk of fires and explosions at industrial sites. This is an important prerequisite for the development of a new method based on a combination of semi-quantitative and index procedures to calculate the individual risk for the personnel of chemically hazardous sites and the population living near them.
