Whole-cell catalytic production of ethylene glycol from C1 compounds using engineered glycolaldehyde synthase

We report a GALS variant with catalytic efficiency increased by 15.9 times. 0.79 g L −1 ethylene glycol can be synthesized by using it in whole cell biotransformation of C1 compounds.
