Thirteen the Hard Way
Would you be willing to have a better life by “passing” for something you are not? In this work of philosophical short story fiction, Chelsea is a 13-year-old girl who is going through a change. She is, literally, sweating blood, when her parents tell her she has a rare condition called hematidrosis. Chelsea is scared, but her parents assure her that she will be fine. However, the next day, Chelsea’s skin and hair begins to fall revealing her alien shell inside. Her parents tell her that she is not human, but a Squamatian. Her parents explains her parents were friends and asked them to keep her, passing as a human, so could have a better life on earth. Chelsea is not sure how she feels about this, but she knows that she has to wear the suit.
