Design of a Dual Band Microstrip Patch Antenna for 5G mm-Wave Applications
In today's wireless communication era, 5G technology is crucial for fast and secure data exchange. This paper explores the pivotal role of the 28.2 GHz and 37.11 GHz frequency bands in advancing 5G applications, addressing the essential need for enhanced data speeds, reduced latency, and superior connectivity in emerging wireless networks. The proposed antenna, with dimensions of 7×7.5×0.8 mm3, utilizes a Rogers RO4350 (lossy) substrate with a dielectric constant (∊<inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">r</inf>) of 3.66 and a thickness of 0.8 mm. It features a -10 dB impedance bandwidth of 2.54 GHz and 3.06 GHz at 28.2 GHz (27.02 GHz - 29.56 GHz) and 37.11 GHz (35.15 GHz - 38.21 GHz). The antenna achieves -26 dB return loss at 37.11 GHz and -24 dB at 28.2 GHz, with gains of 4.38 dBi and 6.9 dBi, respectively. Radiation efficiency reaches 67% at 28.2 GHz and exceeds 83% at 37.11 GHz while maintaining the VSWR condition. Its compact size and outstanding performance make this antenna a promising option for future 5G mobile communication technologies.
