An Improved All-Cavity Extraction Relativistic Magnetron

An improved all-cavity extraction relativistic magnetron (ACE-RM) is proposed and investigated in depth in this letter. To reduce the energy deposition density to avoid anode plasma generation, a hollow beam dump is introduced into the ACE-RM. The axial leakage current is guided into the hollow beam dump and then is dispersed and deposited on its inner surface. Since the deposition area of the electron beam is greatly increased, the energy deposition density is greatly reduced, which effectively avoids anode plasma generation. Simulation and experimental results confirm the success of the improved model. Although there is still a slight mode competition, the working main mode of the ACE-RM is stable. In the experiments, its microwave power reaches 4.03 GW and power efficiency reaches 53.1%. This is a new milestone in RM research.
