Analysis of Material Improvement Possibilities for Slurry Pump Impeller Manufacturing to Enhance Operational Properties
The paper analyzes the operation of slurry pump impellers and explores ways to extend their service life. Based on the analysis of the available information, it is shown that improving materials is a more promising direction than altering the design of impellers. High-chromium cast iron, being the most commonly used material for impeller manufacturing, was identified as the subject of further research. The results of the information search show that the use of complex alloying significantly alters the microstructure and, consequently, the properties of the final product. Alloying with elements such as niobium, vanadium, and titanium leads to the formation of carbides, which enhance wear and corrosion resistance. This study concludes that optimizing the composition of high-chromium cast irons can significantly improve the operational durability of slurry pump impellers, reducing maintenance and increasing efficiency.
