Aspects cliniques, biologiques et écho-doppler des varicocèle

Introduction: Varicocele represents the most common correctable cause of male infertility. The aim of this work was to describe the clinical and Doppler ultrasound aspects of varicoceles at the medical imaging exploration and diagnostics office (CIMED) in Conakry. Material and method: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study lasting 20 months carried out at the CIMED in Conakry. It interested all patients presenting complete clinical files and having had a testicular or inguinoscrotal ultrasound for subfertility or for a varicocele not initially treated. Our variables were sociodemographic, clinical, biological and ultrasound. Results: We collected 50 cases of ultrasound for varicocele, or 0.7%. The average age of the patients was 35.24±10.07 years. Married people were predominant, i.e. 80%. Hypertension was the most predominant antecedent, i.e. 40%. 38% of our patients were alcoholics and smokers. Testicular pain and infertility motivated the performance of the Doppler ultrasound in 74%. In biology, oligospermia was predominant, i.e. 44%. On ultrasound, the varicocele was 70% bilateral and 30% unilateral, predominantly right. 44% of our patients presented with grade 3 varicocele. The average volume of the testicles was estimated at 10.4 ± 4.5 ml on the right and 9.4 ± 4.7 ml on the left. Conclusion: At the end of this study, it appears that Doppler ultrasound is an important tool for detecting the different pathologies of the testicles and its annexes.
