Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) Model for High-Frequency Applications

This paper introduces an optimized Direct Digital Synthesis (DDS) model specifically engineered for high-frequency waveform generation. The enhancements introduced help address the inherent limitations of DDS at high frequencies. Finally, validations are performed through MATLAB Simulink® simulations and FPGA implementation. The final DDS model highlights the improvements across waveform precision and computational efficiency. Hence it is suitable for applications involving high precision signal generation. The fundamental DDS architecture is emulated by designing and then building a baseline model where subsequent refinements include data down-conversion techniques combined with an index-based linear row selector, that reduces quantization errors. The final model produces a high-quality sine wave indicating performance improvements over the baseline DDS model. The model’s potential for industrial applications is highlighted by the high waveform accuracy and computational efficiency, focusing on precise and reliable signal generation. This work emphasizes the necessity for continuous innovation in DDS technology to address the increasing needs of high-frequency signal processing in different engineering fields.
