Knowledge-based international competitiveness of the Bulgarian economy
The paper evaluates the comparative position of the Bulgarian economy from the perspective of the determinants of the knowledge-based international competitiveness. The focus is on the spheres of "information and communication" and "education" as basic factors determining how successfully producers in a given economy can compete in world markets. The methodology includes empirical estimation of the country-specific employment concentration, which serves as the basis of the comparative analysis. Conclusions are drawn regarding: 1) the general level in the EU; 2) the Balkan economies included in the analysis; and 3) the leading economies in the EU in terms of economy size and GDP (PPP) per capita.
