Review of AR and VR Technology in Civil Engineering

Augmented reality (AR) is that converts and provides enhancement in the real-life world into computer information and virtual reality (VR) is that converts computer generated information and models to occupy the real world which actually looks like the factual. The aim of this research paper is to understand the technologies of AR and VR. in the Civil engineering field. The technology is widely being used in construction field because of the many benefits it provides both qualitatively and quantitatively. In present-time most of the social media, Journal articles, Conferences, Conference proceedings, books are insisting on AR and VR technology but the exact knowledge about this have not reached many researchers. This paper tries to provide a sound knowledge about the AR and VR to the civil engineering researchers those who are willing to upgrade themselves in the research field with the present and blooming technologies. In the civil engineering field AR and VR were used for variety of purposes such as visualizing plans, providing an amazing user experience, interactive design development, walk through design, reducing error and shortening the design time in architecture, while in construction, these technologies were used for efficient translation of architectural drawings, creating superior design and development, reducing error during construction, better marketing of the construction projects, saving valuable man-hours, easy review of project designs, and overall cost reduction.
