Delineating the Main Aquifer in the Hit-Kubaiysa Area Using 2D Electrical Resistivity Imaging

The two-dimensional electrical resistivity imaging method was applied at four selected sites between the Hit-Kubaiysa areas to determine the boundaries of the aquifer on the processed (inverse) profiles. This technique was implemented by using a Wenner-Schlumberger array along four 2D surveying traverse lines. Each line has a length of 1190 m, with 120 electrodes spaced 10 m apart. To obtain inverse models, a robust least squares method was used. The absolute error was found to be within the accepted ratio. Depending on the interpretation results, a potential subsurface geological image of the study area, including the main aquifer, was suggested. Accordingly, areas for drilling wells in the area were suggested as well. The appropriate sites for drilling wells were proposed as based on the density of fractures that is most relative to the areas adjacent to the lower part of Al-Dammam Formation, where higher fracture density, higher water content, and lower resistivity.
