Automation and Simulation of 3D Microvascular Networks for Enhanced Hemodynamic Analysis
This paper aims to understand the relationship between blood flow in microvascular networks and the development of microaneurysms. Microaneurysms are of great concern if left undetected or untreated as the resulting leakage of fluid and proteins into the macula may cause vision loss or blindness. Simulations on CAD models can distinguish between healthy and unhealthy retinal microvascular networks, providing insights into blood flow velocity, pressure, and vessel wall shear stress to identify potential microaneurysms. Techniques to improve the efficiency of creating these models were also explored, leading to the discovery of a method to automate parts of the CAD process.
