Development of a Novel Microfluidic Spinner Array for Targeted Particle Transport
In many biological systems, fluids are transported by active multi-channel systems. These channels transport the fluids and particles within them at specific velocities. Recently, the emergence of these biological flows has been increasingly studied. However, there is still a need to develop devices that replicate these natural fluid transportation mechanisms using microfluidics. Such advances could impact fields like biological manufacturing and chemical synthesis by enabling localized, rather than global, fluid transport. This study presents the development of a novel system: an array of spinners designed to transport particles in precise sequences in microfluidic systems, mimicking natural processes. We describe the design of the array and explore the behavior of diverse particles in this system, aiming to identify the most efficient structures for targeted transport.
