The Origins of Syncopation in Brazilian Music
The present work aims to expose different stages in the development of an unpublished study on syncopation in Brazilian music conducted by Mrio de Andrade, a central figure of modernism in Brazil.Initially understood as a rhythmic figure present in various musical practices of the Americas, the concept of syncopation ultimately reveals itself as an interesting analytical tool that is both musical and cultural in a complex context of colonization.
