Hybrid Onshore-Offshore CP Retrofit for Texas Facility
A Texas facility required a cathodic protection (CP) retrofit; however, the scour in the area precluded installing bottom-laid anodes. A pre-existing impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) system was repurposed to provide CP to the facility dock assets. Scour-protected bonds integrated the onshore ICCP system into offshore assets, reducing the retrofit’s footprint. Sacrificial anodes were installed where seabed scouring operations precluded bonding to the onshore system. This study demonstrates that an ICCP-first hybrid retrofit can protect both offshore and onshore assets. Inspection data shows that storage tanks, pipelines, and dock structures can simultaneously meet AMPP CP criteria with this retrofit approach.
