AFECÇÃO PERIODONTAL E SAÚDE SISTÊMICA: IMPACTOS, MECANISMOS E IMPLICAÇÕES CLÍNICAS

ABSTRACT Periodontal Conditions are Chronic Inflammations of Periodontal Tissues that, Beyond Affecting Oral Health, Are Associated with Various Systemic Diseases. This study aimed to analyze this relationship, highlighting the underlying mechanisms involved and their clinical implications. To achieve this, a literature review was conducted based on scientific articles published between 2021 and 2025 in Google Scholar, SciELO, and PubMed databases. The results demonstrated that periodontal conditions negatively impact systemic health through chronic inflammatory processes and bacterial dissemination, contributing to the worsening of conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders. It was observed that periodontal inflammation can affect systemic homeostasis through pro-inflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress, and immune mechanisms. The study emphasizes the importance of preventive and therapeutic approaches, advocating for an interdisciplinary approach to periodontitis treatment. It concludes that periodontal health should be considered a key factor in the prevention and management of systemic diseases, requiring greater awareness and more comprehensive clinical practices. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus. Cardiovascular diseases. Periodontal diseases. Inflammation. Health-disease process.
