Strengthen the Organizational Resilience in Load Handling/Lifting Activities Through the Experience gained during the Pandemic

In 2020, the pandemic event, caused by the spread of COVID19, highlighted the need for a resilient supply chain for the distribution of goods, excluding non-essential sectors. Operational disruptions put a strain on the industries and associated transportation, in particular, establishments at major accident hazard. This study focuses on context where hazardous materials are processed, stored or moved and there is also the need of using equipment for load handling/lifting. The aim is to understand how these contexts evolved from the point of view of the organizational resilience taken advantages from the first pandemic wave; this has been done by identifying and quantifying the factors that influence the resilience and by comparing the results obtained before and after the COVID19 pandemic. Inspired by a recently developed method, the working context under study has been examined by using a check-list that aims weighting the resilience factors. A number of accidental reports has been examined in order to give a judgement about the factors. The analysis of data collected with the check-list showed an improvement of resilience, in particular, with respect to the anticipating, reacting and learning abilities.
