Resilience of the Water Supply System to a Crisis Situation
The occurrence of a crisis situation may be caused by the forces of nature or have an anthropogenic background. These factors pose a threat to the functioning of various technical systems used by people, which can be also a threat to their health or life. One of the most important systems used by people is the collective water supply system (CWSS). Unlimited access to clean and safe water determines the development of citizens. Water supply companies should be prepared to supply water also during a crisis situation. The paper presents a method for assessing the resilience of CWSS to crisis situations in the aspect of water supply. The analysis covered ten water supply companies located in Poland. The results indicated significant shortcomings in the preparation of companies to ensure water supply in a crisis situation. Possible directions of development for the examined CWSS were indicated in order to increase the resilience of the system in the aspect of water supply during a crisis situation.
