A BIBLIOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF UZBEKISTAN PUBLICATIONS IN THE FIELD OF ONCOLOGY BASED ON WEB OF SCIENCE DATA IN 2019-2024

Background: Cancer research targeting people in the Central Asian region is of great importance to conduct successful cancer treatment. On the other hand, the quality of the research is also important and should meet the required scientific criteria. In this context, we aimed to examine the oncology research in Uzbekistan. Materials and Methods: A literature search was performed through the medical journals for articles published in English on oncology. Scientific articles published by Uzbek researchers. By using search words, 140 articles were found in total. 89 of them were related to our study. Descriptive statistics of data with the related variables were given especially in terms of frequency distribution. Bibliometric analysis was done by using VOSviewer version 1.6.20. Results: All of the studies were multicenter studies and generally conducted, analyzed, written, and published scientifically following ethical rules. It is noted that the articles have increased over the years. 28 of the articles (31.5%) were found to have an impact factor of ≥ 4.5. 79 studies (88.8%) were indexed as SCI-Exp journals. In fourteen articles, the Uzbekistan authors were identified with their first names. When all studies were examined, it was determined that half of the studies were provided with financial support, and two of these studies were supported by Uzbek sources. Out of 89 articles, 7 articles were included in the Bibliometric Analysis. Conclusion In the field of oncology, it was determined that there were few clinical and randomized studies. The existing publications were mostly multicenter and externally funded. The publications were found to be in compliance with ethical rules in the general field. It would be recommended that greater emphasis be placed on conducting and publishing national studies by local universities’ clinics.
