A modulated envelope feature detection method for clutter suppression
In order to reduce the effect of clutter interference on surveillance radar, a new feature detection method is proposed, which is based on modulation feature in bearing scanning to suppress false alarms from clutter. In the paper, the feature vector of detection is constructed making use of the difference of envelope fluctuation in radar bearing scanning between point target and area clutter, and a feature detection method in scanning spatial domain is proposed, which is different from the normal detection method in time domain or frequency domain. On this basis, a joint target detection scheme apply to radar engineering is designed, including traditional method of CFAR processor and the new approach of feature detection. Experimental results in real data of a ground-based surveillance Radar show that the proposed method is superior to clutter false alarms suppression.
