The metrication of LPI signal performance by signal phase agility characteristics

This paper introduced a novel metric for characterizing the performance of Low Probability of Interception (LPI) signals, grounded in the agility characteristics of the signal phase (SPAC). Firstly, a step-like graph of phase accumulation was obtained by designing a monotonic rapid phase variation of the signal, and the phase accumulation graph would be linearly fitted in several segments to obtain the SPAC. Then, SPAC were quantified using the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP), resulting in an evaluation formula for SPAC. Next, different signals were evaluated based on this formula. Finally, the accuracy and effectiveness of the evaluation formula were verified by comparing the results with different evaluation methods. The results showed that this method can effectively evaluate the performance of LPI signals. The proposed method was simpler than those based on time-frequency entropy and Wigner matrix. It was also more flexible than empirical formula-based approach.
