Evaluation of Reniform Nematode-Resistant and -Susceptible Cotton Varieties with and Without Aldicarb Near Belle Mina, AL, 2024

This study evaluated the effects of reniform nematode-resistant and -susceptible cotton varieties, with and without aldicarb nematicide, on plant yield and nematode reproduction. Conducted at Auburn University's Tennessee Valley Research and Extension Center, the trial examined plant growth, biomass, nematode populations, and seed cotton yield. Results showed that nematicide application reduced nematode populations by 73%, but no significant differences in nematode numbers occurred across varieties. Cotton varieties with nematicide produced significantly higher yields, with the resistant varieties yielding an additional 740 lbs./acre compared with susceptible varieties. The use of aldicarb also increased revenue by $218 per acre, highlighting the economic benefits of nematode management.
