Evaluation of Foliar Fungicides for Control of Stripe Rust on Winter Wheat in Pullman, WA, 2024
Stripe rust is an important disease of wheat and can be effectively controlled by applying fungicides. This study was conducted in a field near Pullman, WA, under the natural infection of Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici in 2024 to determine the efficacy of 15 fungicide treatments on control of stripe rust on a susceptible winter wheat variety. All treatments significantly reduced the relative area under the disease progress curve (rAUDPC) and produced significantly higher grain yield and test weight than the nontreated check, except for one treatment for test weight. The yield differences ranged from 12.0 bushels/acre (24.1%) to 54.6 bushels/acre (109.5%) compared with the nontreated check. The results can be used by growers to select fungicides and timing of application for reducing winter wheat yield losses caused by stripe rust.
