Strategies in Supporting Staff Nurses’ Journey of Certification in a Magnet-accredited Institution
Healthcare setting has faced significant changes and transformations that put pressure on nursing professionals, especially when delivering interventions in promoting patients’ safety. To prepare nurses, professional development is of utmost importance. This may be achieved through completing certifications. At King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, Jeddah, nurses are supported throughout their journey of certification. This is delivered by the Department of Nursing Development and Saudization in collaboration with the Professional Development Subcouncil (PDC). Several strategies were applied as a supportive measure, namely, including certification as a departmental goal, identifying available certifications, and delivering group awareness sessions. Nursing professional development, through achieving certification, is a key to providing optimal, evidenced-based, safe patient care. This case report may offer a foundation to providing nurses’ support in enhancing their motivation to obtaining certification that would not only benefit them, as a member of the healthcare team, but also improve patients’ outcomes.
