A mathematical model for the collaboration strategy in new automotive development network: a TOPSIS-based augmented e-constraint method
Purpose This paper aims to determine the collaboration strategy in the automotive design and development network in the Iran automotive industry and to protect the value of the design’s intellectual property. Design/methodology/approach The paper develops the multiobjective mixed integer mathematical model to determine the collaboration strategy and acquire the intellectual property of the module design. The TOPSIS, based on an augmented e-constraint approach, is applied to obtain an effective Pareto solution based on the decision-maker’s preferences. Findings The results show that the supplier of the module with the high technology is involved as the Black-Box, provided that the supplier owns the intellectual property. The capture of the design’s intellectual property of platform modules and the module with joint intellectual property has a higher priority. Also, the suppliers collaborate directly if the two modules have a high physical and functional interface. Originality/value The paper proposes a mathematical model to determine the collaboration strategy in an interactive network structure. The mechanism of intellectual property protection as a competitive advantage is considered. The modular platform in the automotive industry uses the benefits of modularity and the platform. The level of supplier involvement in the form of White-Box, Grey-Box and Black-Box, as well as the type of interaction between two network members is considered the influencing factor.
