Cutaneous manifestation of Borrelia burgdorferi infection – a case presentation
Introduction: Lymphocytic lymphoma is a type of cutaneous pseudolymphoma composed of B cells. It is a rare manifestation of Borrelia burgdorferi infection, occurring as a symptom in about 1% of cases. This form of lymphoma is most commonly found in the endemic areas of the Ixodes ricinus tick in Europe and is rarely seen in North America. Additionally, pseudolymphoma of the skin can be an early sign of Lyme disease.Aim: The paper discusses a case involving a 10-year-old boy from Poland with a pseudolymphoma of the skin on the auricle.Case report: A case involves a 10-year-old boy who experienced non-painful swelling of the left auricle, which varied in severity. The child was previously healthy and had not been on any long-term medications. In February 2024, he sustained trauma to the left auricle from a ball strike, but there were no other significant medical events in his history. Conclusions: Although lymphocytic lymphoma is a rare manifestation of Lyme disease, it is essential to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment. Left untreated, it can result in various long-lasting complications, particularly involving the nervous system, heart, or joints due to the effects of Borrelia burgdorferi spirochetes.
