“And Then We Reached the Border: There were a Million Women!”

For two years, EMMA Association's (Hungary) Humanitarian Programme field workers have been helping Roma refugee women and girls from Ukraine to access services related to sexual and reproductive health (SRH).They provided complex psychosocial support to these women, also support in navigating the healthcare system and specific physical accompaniment. This publication summarizes the results of our qualitative research with twenty-one Roma refugee women. In all cases, we interviewed women who had an existing trustful relationship with EMMA field workers.Although we focused on SRH related experiences of women, to get a broader picture of their situation, we also addressed other questions relevant to refugee women, such as the circumstances of their arrival in the country, the housing difficulties, their livelihoods, their attitude towards womanhood and their plans for the future.josha.org
