Eye Mirror You -Twinning Cataracts
A 10-year-old male was brought to the hospital with complaints of defective vision in both eyes. Uncorrected visual acuity was 6/9 in the right eye and 6/18 in the left eye, with a best-corrected visual acuity of 6/6 in both eyes. A dilated slit-lamp examination revealed Eye mirror-Twinning cataracts: a 1.5 mm × 2 mm cataract in the superonasal quadrant of the right eye, extending from the 1 to 2 o clock position [Figure 1a and b], and a 2 mm × 3 mm cataract in the left eye, mirroring the right eye’s cataract in the superonasal quadrant, extending from the 10 to 11 o’clock position [Figure 1c, d]. Intraocular pressure was normal in both eyes. He was advised to wear best-corrected glasses. Observation and six-monthly follow-up was advised for the cataract because the visual axis was clear in both eyes. Regular monitoring of cataract progression is important in such paediatric cases to preserve long-term visual function.Figure 1: (a and b) cataract in the superonasal quadrant of RE.
