Bilateral Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion – A Rare Bilaterality
Abstract Occurrence of bilateral branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO) is very rare. In this case report a male aged 53 presented with diminished vision for two weeks in the right eye (RE) and six months in the left eye (LE). Further examination revealed recent onset superotemporal BRVO (STBRVO) with macular edema (MA) in the RE and chronic STBRVO with ME and neovascularization elsewhere in the LE. A single dose of intravitreal anti-VEGF injection in the RE resolved the ME and complete visual acuity was restored. Sectoral laser photocoagulation was done in the LE. Lab investigations revealed elevated levels of serum homocysteine which can be attributed to bilateral BRVO. Hence, a complete diagnostic workup of a patient is necessary to identify the risk factors for better visual outcomes and prevention of complications.
