On the Study of Adult Piano : Focusing on the Introductory Course

The purpose of this study is to address the need for piano education for adult learners, along with the development of appropriate teaching methods and support measures. With the aging population and increased leisure activities among adults in Korean society, adult learners are seeking emotional stability and self-development through piano learning. However, existing piano education mainly focuses on children and professional performers, leaving a lack of teaching methods, materials, and programs tailored to the characteristics of adult learners. This study highlights the need for customized teaching methods and curriculum development that take into account the physical and cognitive characteristics of adult learners. It also proposes policy support measures to effectively assist adult learners in their piano education by providing a systematic and practical curriculum. Through this study, opportunities for adult learners to enhance their quality of life through music are presented, along with the potential to improve cognitive functions through healthy leisure activities, ultimately expanding opportunities to realize the value of lifelong learning.
