A Study on Digilog Hybridization Techniques in Design

The digilogic hybridization technique refers to a formative method that aims for creative expression through the combined use of analog and digital tools. From this perspective, this study focuses on the human thought mechanism that bridges emotion and technology in the context of art and design, based on digilogic hybridization. By linking digilogic hybridization to bottom-up thinking processes, the paper elucidates the mechanism through which so-called “hybridized thinking” enhances creativity. Hybridized thinking encompasses the integration of bottom-up and top-down thinking processes, as well as the hybridization of consciousness and unconsciousness. This concept is systematized through the framework of “contact-transformation-community-birth”(接化群⽣): access (data collection) → change (conscious analysis) → community (interaction) → life (new creation). The key emphasis lies in intensively pursuing conscious analysis to facilitate interaction between consciousness and unconsciousness, underscoring the necessity of training in bottom-up thinking processes. Ultimately, digilogic hybridization in design can genuinely unleash creativity only when it extends beyond the convergence of technical tools to engage with human cognitive processes. Here, it is critical to discover connections between heterogeneous elements through training in bottom-up thinking and to foster collaboration between consciousness and unconsciousness. The concept of hybridized thinking, when integrated with bottom-up thinking training in design thinking processes, is expected to aid in creative problem-solving. Future research aims to empirically validate the effectiveness of thought hybridization through studies involving design students, further exploring its practical implications.
