THE TROPE DIMENSION OF THE POETIC TEXT OF TARAS MELNYCHUK (BASED ON THE COLLECTION “CHAGA”)
The article is devoted to the relevant topic of linguistic analysis of lexical and stylistic units used in a figurative sense, which are means of constructing the imagery of a poetic text and are constitutive elements of its trope dimension. The article describes the scientific views on tropes as a linguistic category and analyzes the key trope structures of the poetic text of Taras Melnychuk, a poet from Prykarpattia. The concept of “trope dimension” is defined in the article as a constitutive element of the author’s construction of imagery in the broad sense, and as a set of tropes in the narrow sense. The article proves that the dominant trope units of the studied text are metaphors (phrase metaphors, verbal and nominal metaphors), epithets (established epithets, phraseologized epithets, occasional epithets, coloristic epithets), comparisons (comparative phrase with conjunctions like, as, as if, as though; instrumental case; comparative sentence; descriptive comparison; comparativeconjunctive constructions). The article describes the following functions of tropes in a poetic text: expressive, which enables the creation of indicative polarity and illustrates the author’s dominant semantic oppositions; expressive-symbolic, which localizes additional associative semes in color-names; intertextual, which «refers» to additional sources of information thanks to key onomastic units in the text; aesthetic, which consists in the use of tropes as beautiful figurative constructs that are memorable, visualize the author’s poetic image of the world; text-forming, which consists in the formation of the figurative meaning of the text through the functioning of various tropes.
