Phase Noise Correlation in Bistatic Ultra Wideband Impulse Radars
A measurement-based method which improves the detection of small movements using bistatic ultra wideband (UWB) impulse radars is presented. We measure the channel impulse response (CIR) in a room with a large reflecting target. The phase of two range bins in the bistatic CIR are studied closer: One corresponding to a known reference path between transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx), and one corresponding to the reflector. By exploiting the phase of the reference bin, the root mean square error (RMSE) of the target’s velocity induced by phase noise (PN) is reduced by up to a factor of 9.5.
