Prolate-oblate shape transitions of 187Hg nucleus studied by triaxial projected shell model

Inspired by recent experimental data, 1 which has demonstrated that in [Formula: see text]Hg nucleus transition probabilities show a sharp increase with increasing angular momentum, indicating a major shape transition, in this work, the experimental analysis is supported by microscopic calculations using the projected shell model (PSM) approach. PSM calculations are discussed in conjunction with the experimental observations, with analysis focusing on aligned angular momentum and transitional probabilities (B(E2)’s). The results, both PSM and experiment, indicate that the B(E2) values are low up to 21/2[Formula: see text] spins but experience a sharp increase afterwards, indicating shape transition toward large prolate deformations in [Formula: see text]Hg nucleus.
