Super Multi-View Near-Eye Display Using Pinhole Arrays of Timing-Polarizing Characteristics
Among the various indicators of near-eye display devices, a compact form factor is crucial for the viewing experience of users but also a difficult goal to achieve. The pinhole-based light field display technology is regarded as an effective method to achieve this goal. Despite the numerous advantages, there are problems such as crosstalk and the vergence-accommodation conflict (VAC). This paper proposes a super multi-view near-eye light field display device to solve these two problems simultaneously. By endowing the pinhole array and the display screen with timing-polarizing characteristics, crosstalk-free near-eye four-view light field display is achieved. A proof-of-concept display system with a field of view (FOV) of <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">$22.6^{\circ } \times 22.6^{\circ }$ </tex-math></inline-formula> and a depth of field (DOF) of defocus blur of 650mm was implemented using two <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">$3\times 3$ </tex-math></inline-formula> pinhole arrays of timing-polarizing characteristics.
