Design and Birefringence Study of High Nonlinear Polarization Maintaining Fiber
This paper has designed a high nonlinear elliptical core polarization maintaining fiber to improve the birefringence of traditional fibers. This fiber has an elliptical core and two symmetrical elliptical stress zones. The influence of the elliptical stress zone and the ovality of the fiber core on the birefringence characteristics of the polarization fiber is comprehensively studied. By optimizing the parameters, the birefringence of the elliptical core fiber at the wavelength of 1550 nm is 9.4 ×10-4. The fiber significantly increases the birefringence of the traditional fibers. In addition, the nonlinear coefficient will be reduced with the increase of wavelength in the range of 1500–1600 nm. The optical fiber has a simple structure and has the potential to be applied to optical fiber communication and optical fiber sensing field.
