Damper force of a separated dual-chamber single-rod type damper using permanent magnet elastomer particles

Permanent magnet elastomer particles using in this study are spherical particles that are magnetized by dispersing neodymium fine particles in an elastomer. Damper force of a separated dual-chamber single-rod type damper using permanent magnet elastomer particles was investigated experimentally and numerically. Behavior of permanent magnet elastomer particles inside the damper was simulated using the discrete particle method. When a magnetic field is applied, the damper force of a particle damper using permanent magnet elastomer particles increases. Because the Young's modulus of the permanent magnet elastomer increases with the application of a magnetic field, and the normal compressive force increases due to the magnetic interaction force acting between particles, resulting in an increase in the frictional force.
